Healthcare Environmental ▪ Re-usable Sharps container
Requirement
Healthcare Environmental Services Group are a privately owned company with over 20 years experience within the waste management industry, providing environmentally friendly products and solutions throughout the UK, with the emphasis on waste management not waste disposal. HCE approached Shore Design to support their development of a range a fully re-usable sharps container products. The Sharps Containers were developed to provide a system to allow the healthcare sector to reduce plastics destruction and to help eliminate the problem of needle stick injuries to healthcare professionals.
Development
Shore and HCE worked closely with healthcare professionals throughout the development stages to ensure that the containers meet the needs of the user and that of the disposal facility. There are four containers within the range 3ltr, 7ltr, 14ltr & 22ltr and all were developed with compliance and safety to the forefront and the fully patented design has a unique temporary closure method which ensures that all containers can be carried safely through the working environment. Initially the family of four containers were conceptualised in sketch form. Following review & selection of concepts and further aesthetic refinement, the design progressed into 3D CAD for full mechanical development. Shore procured all mechanical verification prototypes and assisted in the set up and management of the mass production manufacturing supply chain.
Result
- HCE now have their own fully patented re-usable sharps containers.
- HCE now have the only true low cost reusable sharps container developed within the UK.
- The new HCE Sharps Containers comply with all government guidelines including BS 5750, UN 3291 and all our bins are sterilised to the standard HTM 20/30.
