Hutchison ▪ Cybex Entertainment System
Requirement
Established as one of the UK’s leading suppliers of tailor-made, top quality audio-visual, telecom and datacom systems into the commercial gym market Hutchison Technologies had the exciting opportunity to develop and supply the new range of personal entertainment systems for US brand Cybex. To help them reach this goal they turned to long term design partner Shore Design.
Development
The product had to meet three fundamental criteria. Firstly, it had to be a robust and reliable construction capable of taking everyday punishment. Secondly, the form had to be sympathetic to the emerging aesthetic of the new Cybex brand, enhancing the new aerobic equipment. Lastly it had to be simple to assemble and maintain – with out any visible access screws, all faces of the product are constantly on view.
In close collaboration with the Hutchison teams in the UK and China, we developed an internal frame solution creating a solid core. From this foundation the cosmetic covers could be hung, styled to seamlessly blend into and enhance the parent equipment. Finally an external rear shield cover clips simply into place masking all the mounting features, cables and access points.
Result
Following wide acceptance by the ultimate client Cybex the new design is already going strong and is quickly being integrated into all new equipment built at their US manufacturing facility.
