Industrial Design
Throughout the industrial design phase, the product architecture, form factor, usability and style develops to give it the competitive edge that will ensure success in the market place.
Our experience of trend awareness, user research and detailed understanding of product form, user interactions and aesthetic ensures your product has the added visual identity in today’s competitive marketplace.
Our industrial designers are involved with a project all the way from the initial conceptual design through to production, ensuring that the design intent is preserved without compromising commercial and technical solutions.

Product Architecture
Product architecture is driven by many factors; components, usability, functional requirements, mechanical functions, aesthetic considerations and manufacturing requirements. We consider all of these aspects when developing a new product, keeping the end user as our focus. Volumetric models help us quickly understand and evaluate designs particularly in terms of usability.

Concept Generation
Hand sketching is still the best way to explore multiple early industrial design concepts; they allow us to quickly capture ideas and to try multiple variations of forms and details. A wide range of architectures & concepts is usually presented to the client and these are discussed and evaluated as a group in order to determine the range of ideas for concept refinement.

Concept Refinement
At this stage a small number of concepts will have been chosen for development. Our industrial designers refine these ideas through hand sketches, preliminary CAD models, sketch models made in our workshop and 2D and 3D renderings. Through a process of refinement and evaluation with the client, the range of concepts will usually be narrowed to one or two.

Computer Rendering
Refined concept designs are illustrated in detail using powerful CAD rendering software. Our actual CAD models are used to create these photorealistic images. These images show all aspects of the exterior of the product in detail. Photorealistic renderings can be used by clients to get feedback from within their organisation and for early entry product marketing purposes.

Ergonomic Studies
Shore practises user-centred design methods and techniques; we have capabilities to carry out specialist Human Factors, Ergonomics and Usability research. During this activity we can consider; product as part of the wider system, environment in which product used, user type and relevant laws and legislations covering its use

User Trials
A very important aspect of the design process is research focused on better understanding how the user interacts with the product and what kind of people use it. We are able to either carry out or support user trials and tests, then incorporate any learning from the trial into the product design.

Sketch Models
An integral part of the design process is the creation of sketch models. These models, produced almost as rapidly as sketches themselves, allow for 3D evaluation of a concept much earlier in the process than is traditionally possible. The models also allow much earlier access to other disciplines and allow the possibility of very early concurrent engineering.

Appearance Models
Shore Design has a full time in-house model maker who provides invaluable support at all stages throughout the development of concepts. All design details are included and materials, colour and finish are as per the final design. These models are often used as a final sign-off and are of a quality suitable for marketing purposes such as packaging and trade show events.
