Watersense ▪ Shower n Save
Requirement
Local start-up company Watersense Ltd. had an innovative idea for a low cost energy saving device the Shower n Save® however they did not have the expertise to visualise nor realise this dream without the aide of Shore Design.
The Shower n Save® is an electronic measuring device intended for the shower or bath which provides the customer with information regarding the cost of water used, the number of litres/gallons of water used and the cost of heating of the water. The goal is to effectively educate the user to the specific costs of water and energy use in their homes and helping to reduce their utilities bills through behavioral change and thus, ultimately, the impact on global resources.
Development
Keeping everything within a pre-determined budget right from kick-off was critical to the business success of the Shower n Save®. Utilising Shore Design's "design to cost" methodologies, Watersense were able to proceed in the knowledge that even during the very first steps in the design process that a realistic target Bill of Materials had been created with tooling investments and component part costs assigned.
Shore Design's team proceeded to generating a number of varied and interesting form factors all within strict 'design to cost' targets. From the customer's preferred external form, Shore Design developed the engineering detail design right through to production ready status, again calling on all our experience to create an innovative, yet low cost solution.
Result
The final design solution is a mature mix of: flexible functionality, attractive aesthetic and cost effective manufacturing solutions ensuring that not only does the Shower n Save® look good but it fulfills its fundamental business objectives.
