e2v Product Launch
We are pleased to announce that the e2v Mi-TIC Thermal Imaging Camera, designed and engineered by Shore is now on sale globally. Originally designed specifically for the US fire fighting market, e2v are now securing major deals around the world including South America. The product is dominating the UK thermal imaging market with £1 million worth of product being delivered between January and March this year alone. The product has won every official fire brigade trial so far.

New Studio Space
We are delighted to announce that as part of our on-going growth plans we have increased our office space by an additional 2300 sq feet. Still in the same location on Leith’s Shore Waterfront, this expansion almost doubles our workspace, which enables us to accommodate new members of our team needed due to continued growth and new business from our clients.
The new space means that we now have 6 floors which will provide a more flexible working environment to support team collaboration and creativity while also providing more meeting and conference facilities and a workshop on-site.
Two new Consultants join Our Team
We have recently welcomed two new members to the Shore Design team, Kevin McGonigal and Gavin McDougall.
Kevin joins us having worked for 11 years as a senior design engineer; his experience is wide ranging, from RF Way finding Systems to flat panel speaker technology.
Gavin joins us having previously worked as a product design engineer at PDR, his experience in medical device design adds to our growing medical design & development team.
Shore Design Exhibits at MEDICA, Dusseldorf
Shore Design rencently took part in the annual MEDICA Exhibition. The event was held in Düsseldorf, Germany from 14-17 November. As the leading trade fair in the industry, MEDICA presents a comprehensive insight into technical and medical innovations. As the linchpin of the medical market, it offers the ideal platform for experts in the field and service providers in medical care to catch up on the latest products, services and innovations.

Shore Design Exhibits at MEDTEC Ireland
Shore Design recently took part in the annual MEDTEC Ireland Exhibition. The event was held in Galway, Ireland. Seen as a knowledge bank for Irish medical device technology professionals, MEDTEC Ireland is the leading event in its area. As the largest hub of medical device manufacturing and research in Ireland, Galway also offers a unique platform of networking, business and innovation.
New Website Launch
Over the past few months we've been working on designing and developing a new website. This has given us the opportunity to show case our latest projects, as well as our full suite of product development services.
The new site will be regularly updated and over the next few months we will have a number of product lanuches' to show case via our portfolio of case studies.
Shore Design Invests In New 3D Production System
Shore Design has recently expanded our in-house 3D prototyping facility with the purchase of a Fortus 250mc 3D Production System. This investment further develops our in-house service and delivers very accurate, high quality 3D models direct from our CAD data in ABS material. This will reduce development time and allow creation of models for proof of concept, functional testing, product mock-ups and verification testing.
Director Nick Foley adds “The new apparatus enables us to create larger models, more quickly and most importantly more accurately than ever before. Having these state of the art facilities in-house will allow us to create physical models in a few hours, reducing project development time and it further strengthens our core suite of services. Additionally this solution will compliment with our existing, valued prototype partners from our ISO approved supply chain; allowing us together to offer our clients an improved, more complete service.
Shore Design Partner wins Double Award
Shore Design are very pleased to announce that its partner, On Stream, A National Grid Company, has won TWO '2011 European Smart Metering Awards' receiving both the 'Meter Manufacturer & Technology of the Year' & 'Innovation of the Year'. With its outstanding and innovative design and technological uniqueness, On Stream's the Gas and Electricity Smart Meters managed to impress an international jury to award not just one but two of the most prestigious European product awards that they deem to be playing a defining role in moving the industry forwards.
On Stream's Strategy & Smart Development Manager Keith Hawkins said: "We are delighted to win these awards. Not only do they recognise the hard work we have put into our product development, but are also confirmation from the industry that On Stream is seen to have the leading smart products and are at the forefront of driving forward innovative solutions to support the wider industry smart roll out". Keith also went on to add: "Shore Design has been a pivotal partner in the development of our Smart Meter product range and would like to thank them for their support in designing the product and setting up the supply chain for our high specification plastics enclosures. Shore was also responsible for creating a 'User Centred Design', creating an intuitive design language that enables users from the slow tech adopters to the technologically advanced to feel comfortable using this new type of product".
Shore Design Win Prestigious Red Dot Award
With its outstanding and innovative design, Honeywell Evohome by Shore Design managed to impress the jury of one of the most prestigious international design competitions. In the "red dot award: product design 2010" Evohome was awarded the "red dot" quality label for high design quality by the jury consisting of top-class experts.
"All products that have won an award in the red dot design award had to convince an international expert jury of their quality. The products stand out from the masses with their excellent design and innovative approaches and proved their quality in one of the toughest design competitions worldwide," explains design expert Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award. This year, designers and companies from 57 nations with a total of 4,252 products took part in the "red dot award: product design".
Shore Design Develops a New Family of Smart Meters
OnStream, a National Grid company that supplies meter-reading and metering services to energy suppliers across Great Britain, has launched smart meters for both electricity and gas that can communicate with similarly equipped appliances through Bluetooth-style wireless technology.
Shore Design were selected to design and develop the product platform ranging from initial aesthetics & user interface through to detailed mechanical design and launch into production. Its ability to turn appliances on and off remotely means that customers will be able to choose cheaper "interruptible" tariffs and run their appliances at the most economic time, which will help to balance energy demand. Steve Holliday, the chief executive of National Grid, quoted in The Times, 20th April "We believe that this meter is what the industry has been waiting for."
